Modifications & Mission-Critical

RF Components specializes in custom Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) engineering designed to meet the most demanding commercial, military, and aerospace requirements. With decades of RF and microwave experience, we deliver reliable, high-performance solutions tailored to your exact operating environment.

Extreme Temperature

We design LNAs for extreme operating conditions, including cryogenic temperatures for scientific research and high-temperature environments for aerospace and engine-mounted telemetry systems. Our solutions ensure stable gain, low noise, and long-term reliability where standard designs fail.

Form Factor

Our custom form-factor solutions include hermetically sealed packages, optimized connector placement, and high-density SMT modules. Designs are engineered to meet tight SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) constraints without compromising electrical or mechanical performance.

Choosing the Right Low Noise Amplifier

When selecting a Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) for your system, the primary metric is the Noise Figure (NF). This determines how much noise the amplifier itself adds to the signal. For satellite receivers and sensitive radio telescopes, a noise figure below 1.0 dB is often required.

Other critical factors include:

  • Linearity (OIP3): Essential for multi-tone environments to prevent intermodulation distortion.
  • VSWR: Ensures proper impedance matching to prevent signal reflection.
  • Dynamic Range: The ability to handle both very weak and moderately strong signals without saturation.

Technical FAQ

What is the difference between Noise Figure and Noise Temperature?

Noise Figure (NF) is expressed in dB and represents the degradation of the signal-to-noise ratio. Noise Temperature (Te) is expressed in Kelvins and is often used in satellite communication systems. They are related by the formula: NF = 10 log10(1 + Te / 290).

Output Third-Order Intercept (OIP3) is a measure of linearity. A higher OIP3 allows the LNA to handle strong interfering signals without creating intermodulation products that could mask the weak signals you are trying to receive.

Yes, our Ka-Band and Q-Band LNAs are specifically optimized for 26-40 GHz ranges, featuring ultra-wideband performance and compact SMT packaging suitable for 5G phased array systems.
