Multiplexers / Diplexers

Diplexers and multiplexers combine or separate signal paths by frequency. Define each channel’s passband and the required isolation between ports, then compare insertion loss, impedance and power handling. Use the model datasheet to confirm connector arrangements and mechanical dimensions.

Multiplexers and diplexers Requirements

Electrical, environmental and mechanical requirements

Electrical Requirements

Provide the required frequency response, insertion loss or attenuation, impedance and RF power level. RFComp can review these requirements against available model specifications.

Environmental Requirements

Specify operating and storage temperatures, vibration, sealing and other environmental requirements. Confirm each rating in the selected model’s datasheet; do not assume every model supports extreme conditions.

Mechanical Requirements

Provide connector type, package dimensions, mounting constraints and any space or weight limits. Confirm the mechanical drawing and interface requirements before ordering.

Choosing the Right Multiplexer / Diplexer

When selecting a Multiplexer or Diplexer for your RF system, consider the following:
Frequency Bands: Ensure the device supports all frequency bands in your system. Isolation Requirements: High isolation is critical to prevent interference between channels. Insertion Loss: Choose devices with low insertion loss to maintain signal strength. Port Configuration: Determine how many input/output ports are required for your application. Power Handling: Verify the device can safely handle your system’s signal power. Size Constraints: Consider SWaP requirements for aerospace, military, or compact installations. Our engineering team can guide you in selecting or designing a custom solution to meet your exact operational needs.

Multiplexer Diplexer Technical Questions and Answers

What is the difference between a diplexer and a multiplexer?

A diplexer combines or separates two frequency bands through a common port. A frequency multiplexer supports multiple bands; the number of channels and their passbands depend on the design.

Compare every channel’s passband, insertion loss, return loss, power rating and required isolation. Confirm the common-port and channel-port connections from the selected model’s documentation.

Set the isolation requirement from the interfering signal level and the maximum level acceptable at the other channel. Specify the frequencies and operating conditions so models can be compared meaningfully.
